    1. BANKING SYSTEM:


      Banking occupies an important place in a nation’s economy. A banking institution is indispensable in a modern society. For the past three decades India’s banking system has several outstanding achievements to its credit. The most striking is its extensive reach.

      The government`s regular policy for Indian bank since 1969 has paid rich dividends with the nationalization of 14 major banks of India.The first bank in India was established in 1786. Since then the journey of Banking System can be segregated into three distinct phases: (1) Early Phase( 1786-1969) , (2) Nationalisation Period ( 1969-1991) , (3) New Phase of Indian Banking System with the advent of Indian Financial & Banking Reforms after 1991.

      EARLY PHASE:
      The General Bank of India was set up in the year 1786. In 1865 , Allahabad bank was established & first time exclusively by Indians , PNB was set up in 1894 with its headquarters at Lahore. Reserve Bank of India came in 1935.The Government of India came up with the Banking Companies Act 1949 & later its amendment i.e. Act NO.23 of 1965.

      NATIONALISATION PHASE:
      1955- Nationalisation of SBI., 1959- Nationalisation of SBI subsidiaries. , 1969- Nationalisation of 14 major banks, 1975- Creation of regional rural banks, 1980- Nationalisation of 7 banks with deposits over Rs. 200 crore.

      LAST PHASE:

      In 1991 , after the liberalization of banking practices as per recommendation of NARSIMHAM committee, ATM, e-banking, phone banking etc are introduced.
      Commercial Banks working in India can be divided into two groups : Scheduled & Non- Scheduled Banks. Those banks which have been included in the Second Schedule of RBI Act , 1934. SBI & all its subsidiaries are scheduled banks i.e. SBI, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda, UBI, PNB , UCO, Canara Bank etc.Some scheduled foreign banks working in India are Citi Bank, HSBC , Standard Chartered etc.

      MISC.
      Plastic Money = Credit Card & Debit Card.
      The first credit card issued in India by Visa in 1981.

      Some global players in Credit Card Market are Master Card, VISA Card, American Express , JCB Cards etc.
      Co-operative banks in India work as per Co-operative Societies Act,1965 & they finance in rural areas under Farming, Cattle, Milk, Hatchery & personal finance schemes.
      SBI has six Associate banks.

  27. After a very long time I am back again. It is high time to get ready for SSC (CGL)2016 Exam. It should be remembered that around 80-90 lakh students across India apply for this exam whereas vacancy varies from 10,000 to 20,000. So, the contest is very tough. This time, there is no interview..so, UR candidates have to score atleast 450 to get selected.Marks from 115-130 for tier-I & 220-235 in tier-II should be the target.You will have 100 minutes for Tier-I.Plan GA-20 mins for 35 Q, GI-35 mins for 45 Q , Eng-25 mins for 35Q & Mahts-20 mins for 25Q be the target. Read at least 8-10 hours daily GA-2hr, GI-1 hr , Eng-2.5 hr & Math-2.5 hr may be a good plan. Solve at least one set weekly to hit the bull's eye. Best of Luck to all...
